Bishop Announces Name Of New Catholic High School

A new Catholic high school in Harrison County will be named for St. Patrick.

Wednesday, Bishop Thomas Rodi announced the name of the new school which will combine Mercy Cross and St. John high schools.

"The name has been chosen to honor the Irish nuns and priests who have served and are serving throughout our diocese. St. Patrick Catholic High School is built as a visible sign to our commitment in Catholic education, as well as a visible sign of the confidence all of us have in the future of South Mississippi," Bishop Rodi said.

The Bishop proudly showed of sketches of the $20 million new school. The Diocese of Biloxi signed Roy Anderson Corporation to build the new school on land in Woolmarket.

The new school will accommodate up to 600 students, have a football stadium, baseball stadium, softball complex, basketball arena and two practice fields. Bishop Rodi says construction will begin immediately.
