Traffic Deaths Down

Traffic deaths in Mississippi dropped dramatically this year, by a huge by 40 percent. Between January and September of last year, there were 391 highway deaths. That's compared to 233 fatalities this year.

The State Highway Patrol listed several reasons for the lower fatality rate, including higher visibility by patrolman, lower tolerance for speeders, and a larger graduating class of troopers. This year's "Click It or Ticket" Seatbelt Campaign also helped.
