Flu Vaccines Late, But Should Be Plentiful

Flu vaccines might be available somewhat later than usual this year, but health professionals don't expect the kind of vaccine shortage that caused problems during last year's flu season.

You'll recall, a nationwide shortage of the flu vaccine delayed many folks from getting their flu shots.

This year the vaccine should be readily available, but its arrival may be slightly behind schedule.

"We're hoping to get ours somewhere around the middle of this month and probably we don't have any definite shipment dates, but that's basically what we're looking for. We understand there will not be so much a problem with supply as the timing will be late this year," said Dr. Bob Travnicek of the Mississippi Department of Health.

Flu season in Mississippi usually begins in mid-December or early January.
