Jobless Rate On The Rise

Students leaving summer jobs,  and returning to school led to an increase in unemployment for August. The state unemployment rate rose one tenth of one percent in August, up to an even five percent. The coast rates reflect the rest of the state.

In Jackson County, rates jumped from 4 point three to 4 point 9 percent. Unemployment is also up in Hancock County from 2 point 9 to 3 percent. And the Harrison County rate stayed at 3 percent.
