A Biloxi teacher got a big pat on the back Tuesday, for a job well done. North Bay Elementary's Ashley Pickich is the local winner of Wal-Mart's Teacher of the Year program.
Wal-Mart employees surprised the first grade teacher with flowers, a cake and a $100 gift card to buy supplies. There was also a $1,000 education grant for her school.
Wal-Mart employees say this year's winner was selected based on the number of nominations.
"It just means a whole lot. I love what I do and I love the children that I teach. And for them to nominate me means a whole lot. It really does," Pickich said.
Ashley Pickich is one of more than 4,000 teachers across the country honored this year by Wal-Mart's Teacher of the Year program.
