MANY PLAN ON COMING BACK

Tourists Enjoy Labor Day Weekend

Thousands of visitors are headed home after spending their holiday weekend on the coast.

Scattered showers may have interrupted their beach time, but tourists we talked with still managed to enjoy a relaxing getaway during their visit here.

Late morning check-out time, found a busy front desk at the beach front Holiday Inn. The parking lot was also active with visitors carrying suitcases and loading up cars for the trip home.

Tourists we talked with say, they didn't let the occasional rain ruin a good time. They enjoyed their Labor Day holiday here and many have plans of returning.

April Klug was visiting from Collins, Mississippi.

"We shopped at the outlet malls, trying to catch up on some Labor Day sales."

Louis Fryman of Memphis, Tennessee is a return visitor to the coast.

"We come back every year. We come down to the Bayou Classic every year. We stay here and drive to New Orleans and come back."

Donna Dillard and family managed to squeeze in a little beach time between downpours.

"We do this every year. Come down to Biloxi and Gulfport and enjoy the beach. Got a lot of little sand crabs and all kinds of cool stuff.  We'll be back next year."

Despite the weekend rain, visitors we talked with had few complaints about the weather. They found indoor activities to keep busy and spend some time on the sand during the occasional breaks in the clouds.

School district risk assessments have to be done every year. It’s required by state law. But for the next school term, an independent study by the Harrison County Sheriff's Office through the perspective of students could make the county school district safer.
