Crews Remove Crumbled Eight Flags Display From Beach

A heavy equipment crew on Tuesday removed the crumbled remains of a coast landmark. Pieces of the familiar eight flags display were removed from the sand beach for disposal.

The concrete wall at the foot of Debuys Road had become a symbol of controversy. There was disagreement over the inclusion of the confederate battle flag.

A public vote in 2002 found a majority of voters in Harrison County favored keeping the flag flying.

There's been no decision yet about replacing the storm battered monument.
