Reading Program Begins

A service organization hopes to make avid readers out of about 400 first graders this school year. Today, members of the Gulfport Junior Auxiliary were at Gaston Point Elementary. Gaston Point is one of four Gulfport schools where Auxiliary members are using their "Reading is Fun" program to get kids excited about reading.

Today, they handed each student play items like cherries, eggs, or fish bones as part of the story. The children say they like the interactive style of the program. After the story, volunteers gave the children an arts and crafts project and a snack.
