"The facility has 24 lanes. It's a split lane concept. This side will have eight lanes, and 16 lanes on that side," said Island Strikz co-owner John Bell.
John Bell is talking about the future Island Strikz Entertainment Center, which will be located near the intersection of Debuys and Pass Roads.
"The entertainment center will feature bowling with all the modern technology in sound and lighting. It will also have a lounge, restaurant, arcade room, party rooms and meeting rooms, so it'll just about have something for everybody to enjoy," said Bell.
This 20-thousand square foot project has been in the works for years now, and actually, construction began on the site a few weeks before Katrina hit.
Bell and his business partners believed the community needed a facility catered to every member of a family.
"An entertainment center that everybody could go out and enjoy and now after the storm I'm sure that we all need something like this to go out and entertain ourselves," said Bell.
If you're familiar with John Bell, you know he is not a stranger to entertainment. In fact, he owned the Sports Pub here in Edgewater Village in Biloxi for 11 years. It was quite a popular spot before Hurricane Katrina tore it down. But he says like South Mississippi, this too will rise again from the destruction.
"Like everybody, you know we were pretty devastated, but we felt that unfortunately these things happen but you know we will be able to come back and rebuild this thing and grow with the Coast," said Bell.
And growing with the coast for Bell means growing in entertainment venues, and he hopes Island Strikz will offer a much needed bit of fun relief as South Mississippi's recovery continues.
Island Strikz is scheduled to open at the end of May or beginning of June.
And Bell says he expect the Sports Pub to open again by the end of the year.
