The first day of fall classes at the University of Mississippi brought with it some encouraging news for that school's administration. Preliminary enrollment figures show a 3% increase on its Oxford campus.
That's 400 more undergraduate students, bringing the unofficial total to nearly 12,000 students. The university is seeing significant student increases from the Gulf coast region, Tupelo and Jackson. Officials at Ole Miss say a strong commitment to keeping Mississippi students in the state is just one of a number of factors responsible for what appears to be a record-breaking year for this institution..
A final enrollment total is expected by the middle of September.
