Dale Directs Insurers To Extend Proof Of Loss Deadline

Mississippi Insurance Commissioner George Dale on Friday directed insurance companies to indefinitely extend the January 31 deadline that waives the proof of loss requirement many policies contain.

A "proof of loss" is a statement you sign listing everything you lost in the storm and its value. Dale says without the proof of loss, policyholders risk not being able to collect on their claims.

Back in October, insurers doing business in Mississippi waived the requirement until January 31. Dale told WLOX he's pushing for the indefinite waiver because thousands of people still haven't settled with their insurance companies.
