Officials with the Salvation Army for Jackson and George Counties say the local chapters of the organization are in a crisis situation.
Salvation Army officials announced Wednesday that contributions are down $20,000, and thrift store sales are down $33,000. That's why the organization had to close the thrift store in Ocean Springs and cut down the hours at the stores in Pascagoula and Lucedale. They've also laid off some of their workers, and are recruiting more volunteers.
Officials put some of the blame on recent plant closings in Jackson County.
