While several coast school districts are making school uniforms mandatory, one school district is dropping the ban.
The Hancock County School Board recently decided to drop the mandatory uniform policy. Last year three of the six schools in the district took part in a school uniform pilot program. School leaders say the voluntary program got off to a great start with more than 40-percent of students participating.
However school officials say as the school year went on, the participation dropped pretty drastically. In fact by the end of the year less than 20 percent of the students were wearing uniforms.
Patrick Gardner, an eighth grader says uniforms are uncomfortable and you just don't feel the same in them as your regular clothes.
