Hogs Still Coming To Coast For Memorial Day

Hurricane Katrina will not stop the hogs from rolling into Gulfport this year for the annual Memorial Day Harley Blowout. This will be the 24th year for the big bike rally hosted by the Asgard Motorcycle Club.

A spokesperson for the group said they did consider canceling it this year because of all the damage. But the rebuilding efforts convinced them to open up the gates at the Gulfport Dragway.

"The casinos deciding to stay and rebuild, the participation of the players coming back to the casinos, plus having a toy run with real good response. And talking to the Harrison County Tourism Commission where they said there was 9,000 rooms in the hotels and motels and there should be another 9,000 available in May, that prompted us to go ahead and have the blowout," said Smokey with the Asgard Motorcycle Club.

The blowout normally brings from 10,000 to 20,000 bike fans to the coast. Money raised from the rally goes to various charities.
