Rep. Gene Taylor Sues Insurance Company

Congressman Gene Taylor has gone to Congress to find help for South Mississippi storm victims. Now he's going to court to help his own family.

The democrat has filed a lawsuit against his insurance company, State Farm. The lawsuit claims Taylor paid premiums for 20 years and relied in good faith that State Farm would cover his hurricane losses.

According to the suit, State Farm did not pay for the total property loss, saying the damage to Taylor's Bay St. Louis home came from the storm surge, not the wind.

Taylor's situation and lawsuit is like so many others - a battle of wind versus water. Dickie Scruggs' law firm, which is representing many other storm victims, is handling Taylor's lawsuit.

The same firm is also handling a similar lawsuit against State Farm from Senator Trent Lott. The republican's beachfront home in Pascagoula was also leveled by Hurricane Katrina.
