Two Coast Residents Killed In Separate Accidents

Two people were killed in separate auto accidents in South Mississippi Saturday morning.

A Perkinston man died Saturday morning after his car ran off the road and into a creek. Stone County Sheriff Mike Ballard says Walter Smith, 40, of Perkinston apparently fell asleep at the wheel.

The accident happened on Ten Mile Church Road just outside Wiggins. Stone County Sheriff's deputies found him shortly around 7:50 a.m. Saturday morning.

Ballard says Smith broke his neck, was knocked unconscious and then drowned.

A Diamondhead man was also killed in an accident on Diamondhead Drive. The Hancock County Sheriffs Department identified the victim as 31-year-old Brian Campbell. Officials say his car ran off a bridge and hit an embankment. Someone spotted his car around 10 this morning.

Sheriff's officials aren't sure how or when the accident occurred. Toxicology results on the victim are pending.
