Elderly Couple Gets X-Treme Home Makeover

In just five days members of a Georgia church have forever transformed the lives on an elderly Pascagoula couple.

On Monday, Grace Baptist Church of Gainesville started a complete renovation on the home of Charles "Andy" Anderson and his wife Audrey.

After a lot of intense labor, the X-treme Grace Makeover team was ready for the big reveal.

The address at the Pascagoula house on Monterey Avenue is the same, but that's about it.

Members of Grace Baptist Church couldn't wait to show the owners what they'd done with the place.

X-Treme Grace team member Ricky Gunter said " Everybody is so excited. We can't wait for the Andersons to get here. We didn't hardly sleep last night."

Charles and Audrey Anderson arrived home after leaving left their badly damaged house in the hands of the Grace X-Treme Makeover team nearly a week ago.

The couple came back Saturday to an emotional homecoming.

"I'm going to cry," said Mr. Anderson.

There were tears among the crowd.

More than 50 people had left their homes in Georgia and come to Pascagoula.

They'd put in 10 to 14 hour days to help people they barely knew.

"When you've got people like Charles and Aubrey, it makes it all worthwhile. You're get a real good blessing and a real good feeling when you leave and go home. You're tired, but you feel good," said Mike House.

Then it was time for the Andersons to go inside a house they'd been in many times but never like this.

The flooring, cabinets, furniture, appliances and almost everything else in their home was brand new.

Each room brought even more astonishment.

"There' no way that we can thank these people enough for all they've done. It's something we could not have possibly have done ourselves. This old house was needing something for a long time. It's just a miracle of God," said Audrey Anderson.

"I like to talk but this makes me speechless," said Charles "Andy" Anderson. "The good Lord has taken care of us and He's had these people help us and words can't express what's going on and it's just a beautiful, beautiful place."

The Anderson's say they are so deeply touched by the kindness of Grace Baptist Church that the couple, both in their 80's, have rededicated their lives to helping people in need.

"There's two types of people in this world. There's the givers and the takers and I want to be a giver like these people are," said Charles. "They are all givers and I would like to be able to in the short time we have left is to help other people."

The X-Treme Grace Makeover Team plans to do another project in the Spring.
