A five-year-old D'Iberville girl narrowly escaped a house fire early Thursday morning. She was home alone.
Firefighters responded to a fire at a rental home on Third Avenue around midnight. Fire Chief James Comer says the mother was working an overnight shift and left the five year-old with her 17-year-old brother. The teen was not home when firefighters arrived.
Two men eating at the Waffle House across the street saw the fire and rescued the child. Paramedics took the girl to Biloxi Regional Medical Center for observation. When the firefighters arrived, they went into the house but couldn't find the 17-year-old. Chief Comer says the boy left.
The Harrison County Sheriff's Department is investigating the fire. We'll have more on this story later today on WLOX News.
