Lott Looking For Ways To Help Gulfport With Sewer System

Sen. Trent Lott says he'll do all he can to help the City of Gulfport find a means of replacing its aging water and sewer system.

Gulfport Mayor Ken Combs has asked the senator for assistance in making the costly improvements. Sen. Lott says he's investigating ways to help both Gulfport and Biloxi.

"I have told the mayors here in Biloxi and Gulfport that we're going to work with them," Sen. Lott said. "We're going to see if we can find some earmarked federal funds for them, but we're also going to develop a program that will help towns like Gulfport get the funds they need. They need it. They're going to have to do it. And we want to help them."

Mayor Combs says the water and sewer improvements in Gulfport would cost more than $120 million and the city just doesn't have that kind of money.
