Murder Suicide Claims Lives Of Saucier Parents

The outside of this home looks like the perfect setting for bringing in the holiday season with cheer.

But something went terribly wrong on the inside of this home at the intersection of Andre Drive and Martina Street Friday afternoon.

"Around 4 p.m. this afternoon we received a call here on Andre Drive of a possible shooting. Deputies arrived on the scene. We've got two victims. It appears to be a domestic situation where a husband and wife had a quarrel. It appears the husband shot the wife and then took his own life," said Sheriff George Payne of the Harrison County Sheriff's Department.

The names of the couple are not being released. However, they were parents -the mother was 36, the father, 40.

In fact, a neighbor says the husband stayed during Hurricane Katrina to protect the home after sending his wife and children to Florida.

The stress of the hurricane, as well as the upcoming holidays, may have contributed to the couple's tragic outcome.

"During the holidays, especially with everything that is going on with everybody's lives today, this is the second shooting we've had today. Stress-related, interpersonal related, whatever," said Sheriff Payne.

An hour before the deputies arrived on the scene there in Saucier, they had responded to a failed suicide attempt in another part of South Mississippi.
