Emergency Officials Urge Boaters To Prepare

Emergency officials are urging boaters to get ready for the severe weather that may accompany Tropical Storm Barry and not to wait until the last minute.

The director of the Biloxi Port Commission has said that a forced evacuation will not be called in the Biloxi Small Craft harbor or the Point Cadet Marina. But he is asking boaters who want to evacuate their boats to do so early Sunday morning.

Also, the Harrison County Civil Defense director is informing boaters that two draw bridges in the area are not working, so boat owners need to find alternate routes to evacuate. The bridge on I-110 in Biloxi is malfunctioning and cannot be raised. Also in Pass Christian, the Bayou Potash Bridge is not working either.

Many boaters were out Saturday getting ready for the storm. They were fueling up their boats and stocking up on other necessities.

Harbor officials say that if boaters do choose to stay, they should add additional mooring lines to their boats and make sure harbor officials have accurate phone numbers if they need to contact you.
