Biloxi Council Rejects Landry's Point Cadet Plans

Plans for a $500 million casino resort on Point Cadet were rejected Tuesday by the Biloxi City Council. The council voted to deny Landry's Biloxi Boardwalk Development plans to build on city owned property.

Landry's had a plan to create a development that included a Golden Nugget Casino, restaurants, and a festive boardwalk on the point. Councilmen say the project didn't meet city requirements and the Isle of Capri, which has the first option to lease the city land, had a better proposal for the property.

The Biloxi City Council did vote unanimously to give its blessing to a proposed six lane high rise bridge linking Biloxi and Ocean Springs. The Mississippi Department of Transportation will build the structure.

Biloxi councilmembers want MDOT to include inside and outside shoulders and a sidewalk on both sides.

The council's vote is a disappointment to Ocean Springs Mayor Connie Moran who is pushing for a smaller, four lane bridge.
