Casino Parking Garage Has Some Concerned

Grand Casino Biloxi has its new parking garage up, and now two more Casino Row properties are planning to put garages up as well.

Casino Magic is looking for approval before it starts construction on a more than 1,200 space garage that would mirror Grand Casino's. Just down the road, the Isle of Capri also has plans for additional parking.

"Our new parking garage, it's strictly in the preliminary stages right now, and it will be a thousand car parking garage," Isle of Capri spokesperson Kia Bird. "It will consist of four levels, a ground level plus three additional levels."

It's those plans that have the Isle's neighbors to the east, the Marine Education Center, concerned.

"I would hope that we would build parking that would be accessible to both the Isle and Casino Magic and everyone on that Point, as well as ourselves and that we could build parking that wouldn't just look like parking," Marine Education Center Director Jay Grimes said.

Of course, they're not opposed to more parking because as Grimes says, with the hope of a new aquarium coming to Point Cadet, they'll need it. He says a joint master plan thinking of the future of both properties would be more ideal.

"We had assurances from them that they would be working with us to accomplish that," Grimes said. "So again, we're concerned that they're moving forward without working with us."

Kea Bird says, "We did present our plans to the IHL Board a few weeks ago, so we have presented that."

Meanwhile Grimes adds, "I think a world class aquarium would definitely benefit the Isle, as well as, the city of Biloxi in general, and we'd like to be at a table right now planning with them, so that we could build something on Point Cadet that would be beneficial to everyone."
