Contaminated Beach Sand To Be Cleaned

We have a follow up report on possible sewage being dumped onto the beach.

Thursday, WLOX News told you about a truck that was dumping sand pumped from storm drains along Highway 90 onto the beach in Long Beach. That sand is said to contain sewage water, debris and other contaminates.

Transportation Commissioner Wayne Brown told us Friday that a company was hired by the state Department of Transportation to clean out the storm drains and put the sand back on the beach. The sand will then be cleaned, and solid waste will be removed.

Brown says the project has been approved by the Department of Environmental Quality and the Department of Transportation is working closely with them to get the storm drains and beach cleaned up.
