International Game Technology is acquiring Anchor Gaming, to become the largest public company in Nevada.

Reno-based I-G-T is the world's biggest slot machine manufacturer.

Anchor is a Las Vegas-based slot machine maker with two casinos in Colorado and a slot machine route in Nevada. It also manages an Indian casino that opened in April in northern San Diego County, California.

The one-point-three-seven (b) billion dollar deal will create a company bigger in stock value than M-G-M Mirage -- which has been the biggest company in the state. It still needs approval from regulators and from Anchor and I-G-T stockholders.

It is expected to close in the first quarter of 2002. Anchor would continue to operate separately as part of an I-G-T subsidiary. The deal calls for swapping one share of I-G-T for each share of Anchor Gaming.

The two companies have been manufacturing ``Wheel of Fortune'' slot machines together since 19-96. They've also recently began producing ``I Dream of Jeannie'' slot machines.
