NAVY OCEAN EXPERIENCE PEAKS STUDENTS' INTEREST

Navy And USM Dedicate New Biloxi Display

There's a new exhibit in Biloxi, aimed at peaking students' interest in oceanography and meteorology. On Monday afternoon, representatives from the Naval Meteorology and Oceanography Command and the University of Southern Mississippi unveiled a new display at the J-L Scott Marine Education Center and Aquarium.

The exhibit is called a "Navy Ocean Experience". The centerpiece is an interactive computer, loaded with "Neptune's Web", an oceanography learning program. The display also includes career information in Navy meteorology and oceanography and satellite displays of ocean and land areas. You can even hear the sounds of the sea piped through the display.

The Navy has a long history of partnering with the Scott Aquarium. Both groups have teamed up for the JASON Project, the Secretary of the Navy Engineering and Science Residential Program, the Consortium of Oceanographic Activities for Students and Teachers, and the Ocean Science Bowl.

Christmas, it is the season to be jolly. It seems that everybody is on the streets as we count down the days for Christmas shopping.
