Students from St. Thomas and St. Paul Catholic Schools made it back to class Monday, sharing space in an old skating rink.
Katrina wiped out both schools, so a parishoner of St. Thomas and four other investors bought the Roller Express Skate Center on Daugherty Road. Within two weeks, volunteers and Seabees turned the building into classrooms for students from each school.
"It's been absolutely amazing that the community has come together and let all this happen for today. I'm surprised we were able to pull it off," Maria Boomer with St. Thomas School said.
