Hundreds Search For New Jobs At Ocean Springs Job Fair

Cingular Wireless's Regional Call Center in Ocean Springs needs workers.

"We're looking to hire up to 200 folks or so," says Area Manager Steve Campbell.

Laquicia Jenkins of Gautier, a former cook at Boomtown Casino, hopes to be in that number.

At first I was enjoying this vacation but I'm getting board," says Jenkins. "I'm ready to go to work now."

Logan Helton of Pass Christian who lost her home and job in the storm feels the same.

"I got my fingers crossed," says Helton. "Everything is crossed."

Both were among the hopefuls at Cingular's weekend Job Fair.

"I think if you want a job there are jobs to be had here and there are good jobs to be had here," says Campbell.

These good jobs pay between 9 to 12 dollars an hour with benefits.

"If they have some basic computer skills and some customer service background then that's what were looking for."

Just down the road general manager Bob Wall of Classy Chassis Car Wash is also in desperate need of help.

"We're hiring for all positions," says Wall. No experience necessary. We need about 45 people."

His workforce too was hard hit by the Hurricane and it's after effects.

"A lot of people that just didn't have roots in the area have just moved on. No reason to stay. No home, so a lot of people displaced."

Now he's competing with the other remaining coastal businesses to hire what's left of the workforce that it staying.

"From minimum wage up to 20 dollars an hour."

He promises fresh air, hard work, and immediate consideration.

"Come on into any location, Biloxi, Ocean Springs, Pascagoula, and we'll put you to work in about 2 minutes."
