BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - South Mississippi is under a Tropical Storm Warning. Forecasters have all three coastal counties inside the cone of uncertainty. They believe that late Tuesday and early Wednesday, tropical weather will create a series of concerns for Mississippi residents.
At 7:00 a.m., the system was five miles west of Key Largo, Florida. If you're plotting the storm, it's at 25.1N, 80.5W. Its maximum sustained winds are 35 mph. And it's moving WNW at 16 mph.
While it's still not a named storm, it's expected to develop into a tropical system later today. It will become Tropical Storm Gordon.
WLOX First Alert Weather meteorologist Wesley Williams says the warm waters in the northern Gulf of Mexico give this system a chance to strengthen over the next 24 to 48 hours. He encourages people to take any necessary precautions now, so you're prepared for the storm's landfall.
