TWO MORE STILL REMAIN CLOSED

Two Sections Of Beach Declared Safe

Two sections of Harrison County beach are open again, two other sections remain closed. The Department of Environmental Quality says its safe to swim again in the waters near Shadowlawn Avenue in Pass Christian The Chalmers Street area of Biloxi is also open for swimming again.

Stll closed is the section of beach at Rodenburg in Biloxi. The waters near Pratt Street in Gulfport are also off limits. D-E-Q officials advise against swimming and other recreational activities in these two areas until water samples prove it is safe.

    Mississippi Public Service Commissioner Cecil Brown spoke Thursday morning at the Neshoba County Fair. And a portion of his remarks focused on the Kemper County lignite plant roughly 30 miles from the fairgrounds. "The Kemper story is not over," the commissioner said, "but one way or another it is nearing the end." Brown used part of his speech to explain the latest developments between his agency and Mississippi Power regarding its $7.5 billion plant.
