OCEAN SPRINGS, MS (WLOX) - Gil's Fish camp in Ocean Springs is undergoing a transformation these days. What's been billed as "the best dive bar in Mississippi" is now getting into the guest accommodations industry.
The owner Kevin Ramage has built two small cabins on his property with more to come. He says they are a good fit for the growing tourism industry in Ocean Springs. The cabins, which are luxuriously appointed, can be rented out on a nightly or weekly basis.
The Burkett family from Oklahoma is staying in one of them right now. Dad Stephen said he, his wife, and two daughters love the cabins, adding that they are like a home away from home.
The cabins overlook picturesque Fort Bayou. Meanwhile, Ramage isn't done yet. He's gone before the city planning commission and has received permission to build ten more cabins on the property. He hopes to have at least some of them under construction by the end of this year, with all ten being finished and ready to use by early 2020.
