WAVELAND, MS (WLOX) - The Waveland Fire Department responded to reports of an apartment fire around 3 p.m. on Thursday afternoon.

When firefighters arrived to Waveview Apartments on Audurer Blvd., they witnessed thick and heavy smoke coming from an upper-level apartment.

Flames were seen in the breezeway as well, according to Assistant Fire Chief Tommy Carver Jr. He said it took about 45 minutes to put out the fire.

The firefighters received backup from Bay St. Louis Fire Department, who sent two firefighters to help control the fire. Three off-duty firefighters from Waveland were also called in to assist.

Several people were evacuated from their apartments as AMR officials stood by to treat any heat related injuries, none of which have been reported. Up to six apartment units were damaged as a result of the fire, Carver confirmed.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
