PASS CHRISTIAN, MS (WLOX) - The beginning of the 2018-19 school year is fast approaching. Teachers and administrators are getting classrooms and new staff members up to speed.
In Pass Christian, classes begin this Friday. English teacher Leslie Langham says with day one of the school year on the radar, she and her colleagues are mentally shifting into "school mode."
"On the one hand, I am a little sad maybe that summer is ending but with that being said, I've already been in my classroom and it's completely ready to go for the new school year," Langham said. "So I am looking forward to it, I think this is going to be a great year, and I'm just excited to see what our students are going to bring."
Down the hall at the media center, Principal Robin Killebrew brought her new instructors up to speed and got them paired up with their pirate partner.
"We ask our new teachers to be paired with a pirate partner," Killebrew said. "The partner's responsibility is just to show them the ropes at Pass High. Show them the culture, teach them our technology and teach them everything they need to know about our school building."
For now, it's about team building and orientation. On Friday, it'll be time to execute the 2018-19 school year plan.
"Tomorrow we'll take our teachers off campus," Killebrew said. "We'll meet with them, do a lot of team building and exercises, and just have a lot of fun and getting ready for Friday when our students return."
