Members of the charter bus industry went head to head with some the best in their business in Gulfport this weekend.
More than 200 bus drivers and mechanics from across the United States and Canada showed off their skills at a competition sponsored by the American Bus Association. Drivers had to make sharp turns, back up in tight areas, and weave through cones.
Meanwhile, mechanics tested their knowledge of brake systems and other parts of the bus. Competitors say working with charter buses is somewhat different from other types of transportation.
"Down the road, you've got to be aware of the sharp turns the angles," bus driver Bobby Saffley said. "You're not just dealing with just freight, you're dealing with people's lives."
