HARRISON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) - Harrison County deputies arrested Joshua Frank Valentine, 26, of Pensacola, FL and Julian Davis, 30 Wednesday.
Valentine was arrested on charges of felony Evasion and felony Possession of Methamphetamine. Davis, who list himself as homeless was arrested for a Fugitive from Justice warrant from Florida.
Sheriff Troy Peterson said deputies responded to a Shell gas station in Long Beach on a suspicious person call. Deputies say the clerk told them three unknown males attempted to purchase items with Walmart gift cards which were denied. The clerk gave deputies a description of the vehicle the men entered when they left the store.
Deputies say they were able to locate the vehicle next store at the Chevron gas station. The driver of the vehicle fled from the deputies after they attempted to make contact with it, leaving one of his passengers behind.
According to deputies, they pursued the vehicle south on Beatline Road in Long Beach. The vehicle turned west on Pineville Road, running stop signs at a high rate of speed. Deputies say the vehicle turned south before losing control and crashing.
Deputies identified Valentine as the driver, and he was taken into custody by a Harrison County K-9 after a short pursuit on foot. Methamphetamine was also located in the vehicle, according to deputies. Valentine was taken to Memorial Hospital in Gulfport for injuries suffered during the crash.
After he was treated and released to deputies, Valentine was transported to the Harrison County Adult Detention Center.
Police identified the passenger in the vehicle as Davis, and he was arrested on the Fugitive charge. He was also transported to Memorial Hospital for treatment before being released to deputies.
The other two occupants in the vehicle, including the person who was left at the store, were released at the scene.
Valentine is being held on a $75,000 bond. Davis was also booked into the Harrison County Adult Detention Center but is being held without bond awaiting extradition to Florida.
