HANCOCK COUNTY, MS (WLOX) - A water leak is to blame for a phone outage in Hancock County.

An overnight leak from an AC unit damaged the phone system at the county's annex building.

This includes the tax assessors office, chancery clerk office, building department and administration.

The county's IT director says the process to process to get the phone lines back up is complicated, but they expect to have it done by Wednesday.

"It is extremely complicated because there are several players. You have the phone company, you have us, we have engineered who help us with the phone system. So it’s like a puzzle that we’re trying to piece together as quickly and as easily as possible," said IT Director Scott Schaefer.

Until the system is back up, officials encourage residents to reach out through email or the county's Facebook page or visit the annex in person from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
