JACKSON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) -

Traffic is moving slow in Jackson County after an 18-wheeler carrying hazardous materials caught fire.

It happened just before noon Monday on Lily Patch Lane, which is just outside Moss Point city limits near the intersection of Highways 63 and 613.

Jackson County Emergency Management Director Earl Etheridge says the truck is carrying flammables, oxidizers and an acid, as well as other stuff. A WLOX reporter at the scene said she sees boxes of new toilets among the other materials on the truck.

The fire is now out but one lane of traffic remains closed. Crews are unloading the truck by hand, which is expected to take a few hours.

The truck driver escaped uninjured and told WLOX he doesn't know what happened. "It just caught fire!" he exclaimed.

We will continue to update this story as new details are reported.
