Oxford-Lafayette Humane Society head quits after 10 months

OXFORD, Miss. (AP) - The director of the Oxford-Lafayette Humane Society has resigned after less than a year.

The Oxford Eagle reports that Angela Avery did not deny resigning but did not comment further.

Lafayette County Supervisor Chad McClarty, who is on the shelter's board, said Thursday that he understood she had resigned.

The shelter emailed the newspaper a statement saying only that the matter was a personnel issue.

The former director and several employees walked out 10 months ago because of internal struggles between the staff and the board of directors.

One complaint was that the board was reluctant to move animals to other shelters.

Avery told the board in May that OLHS had joined a program in which the ASPCA takes animals every two weeks to shelters with higher demand for pets.
