(WVUE) -

The NBA's MVP race is down to just three players and the Pelicans Anthony Davis is in that number. But, so too are Cleveland's Lebron James and Houston's James Harden.

To make his case, Davis' numbers warrant serious consideration. His 28.1 points per game ranked second in the NBA. But he led the league in blocks and was fifth in rebounding with 11-per game. And he raised his level of play after fellow all-star DeMarcus Cousins went down to an Achilles injury. Davis is also in the running for the leagues Defensive Player of the year award, along with Philadelphia's Joel Embiid and Utah's Rudy Gobert.

But, Davis' competition for the MVP award is stiff. Harden leads the league in scoring with 30.4 per game while also handing out eight assists. He was the number one player on the leagues number one offense.

James, meanwhile, has put together an MVP-worthy season while leading a team that's changed personnel throughout the season. He didn't miss a game in a season for the first time in his career and averaged nearly 28 points, nine rebounds and nine assists per game while also making 54 percent of his shots.

James also played an NBA-leading 37.2 minutes per game.

The league will announce the winners on June 25th.
