Northwest Airlines Cuts Airfares

Northwest Airlines has cut summer and fall vacation fares. The airline wants to fill seats going empty with business travel down in a weakening economy.

Northwest operates a passenger hub at Memphis International Airport. Northwest Air Link operates service out of the Gulfport Biloxi Regional Airport.

The country's fourth-largest airline agreed to match a fare sale initiated Monday by Delta Air Lines and quickly matched by American and United Airlines.

The Minnesota-based airline also extended its own summer fare sale. It was scheduled to end last week, but now runs through Friday.
