Man Locked Up For A Year Still Awaiting Trial

A New Orleans man has spent the last year locked up in Jackson County's detention center waiting for his case to go before a grand jury.

Last July, Pascagoula Police arrested Brian Young on capitol murder for the stabbing death of LeLie Coleman. Since an initial court appearance, Young's case has not moved forward in more than 350 days and now could be dismissed because of the long delay.

Young's attorney George Shaddock has filed the motion based on the Constitutional right to a speedy prosecution. Over the last year, four different grand juries have met but none have heard Young's case.

District Attorney Keith Miller is in charge presenting cases to the grand jury. Miller says this case hasn't been forgotten but only delayed because important DNA evidence is still being processed from both the state crime lab and a private lab.
