METAIRIE, LA (WVUE) -

For everything Anthony Davis, Jrue Holiday and everyone on this Pelicans roster have accomplished so far this postseason, credit must also be given to head coach Alvin Gentry and his staff. He's earned what most would now call a much-deserved fourth year with the team, and we shouldn't be surprised if there's an extension in the works as well.

“The fans can be tough,” says Gentry about his relationship with New Orleans. “I've experienced that, but that's OK. I know that they care. I would love nothing more than to be able to do what the Saints did ten years ago and be able to have a parade to celebrate a championship here.”

Players that have been with Gentry throughout his time with the Pelicans can tell you first-hand about the ups and downs through two disappointing seasons. But to have them playing the type of team basketball that Gentry always envisioned they could, his players are starting to see the NBA power they could become.

“To know he's going to be here again, it's huge for us and huge for me,” says Anthony Davis. “It's exciting. He's been through the lowest of lows with us, and I think this is the best we've been since I've been here.”

And for Rajon Rondo, in particular, his relationship with coach Gentry is a special one. It seems to be less coach-to-player and more of a partnership with a profound mutual respect.

“He's one of the last coaches that actually sat down with me at the beginning of the season and told me that he likes his point guards to run the show and actually stuck to it,” says the veteran point guard. “It's been refreshing that there are still guys of their word that say what they mean, and their actions speak louder than words.”

Andas we all know, winning speaks louder than anything.
