Some Help Available For Coast Flood Victims

It's been nearly two weeks since heavy rains brought in by the remnants of Tropical Storm Allison brought heavy rains and flooding to the coast. Home owners are still trying to cope with the problem.

The state's disaster housing program is providing some help for individuals without insurance, including the following:

  • three months rental assistance
  • minimal housing repair
  • one month rental assistance for renters

The amount of assistance you qualify for depends on the amount of insurance you have and how many people live in your home.

To apply, call 1-800-434-4243. A Mississippi Emergency Management Agency representative will schedule an appointment to visit applicants. The assistance will come in the form of grants, not loans. So far, only 300 people have applied.
