Rankin Co. student wins 2018 Mississippi Spelling Bee

JACKSON, MS (WDAM) -

Mississippi has a new state spelling bee champion. The word spelled to win the title was “expropriate.”

Vaibhavi Mahajan won the 2018 Mississippi Spelling Bee held Tuesday at the Rose E. McCoy Auditorium at Jackson State University.

Vaibhavi is an eighth grade student at Northwest Rankin Middle School in the Rankin County School District. She will now compete in the 2018 Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C. in May.
