A program at USM Gulf Coast is helping disabled sportsmen reel in the big ones with a new electric fishing pole.
For many disabled people, fishing often poses too many obstacles, but the new pole lets users reel fish with the touch of a button. The equipment was purchased with state grant through USM's toy library. All the equipment is then loaned out for free to physical challenged fishermen.
So far, the toy library has received more than $100,000 in state grants. Future purchures could include a new wheel chair lift for boats.
