Louisiana female lawmakers: Misconduct policies have gaps

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - Louisiana's female lawmakers say they want to tighten policies in the state Capitol for handling sexual misconduct allegations.

On Friday, they reviewed existing House and Senate policies and talked of the need to bolster protections for anyone who works in the building. Much of the time was spent on technical testimony about the current sexual harassment prohibitions in regulations and law.

The meeting turned more emotional as three University of Louisiana at Lafayette faculty members described being unable to get administrative assistance to end what they described as harassment in their workplace.

And a former legislative employee who now works for the state's child welfare agency stepped forward to say that he didn't speak out when a lawmaker in the 1980s exposed himself and propositioned him in a Capitol restroom.
