Ferries Increase Trips To Ship Island As Demand Increases

Making the trip out to Ship Island has now gotten a lot easier.

This weekend, Ship Island Excursions started making more trips out to the barrier island. The getaway has become so popular that the owners have expanded the weekend schedule. Two more cruises have been added on Saturdays and Sundays so that now Ship Island Excursions will make a total of five trips out and back on weekends.

Ferry captain Ken Skremetta says now that the summer tourism season is beginning, more people are visiting the Island and that means more business.

"We're seeing a little bit of an increase," he said. "We did real well on Memorial Day weekend, and as school gets out our business will increase a little bit more, and of course when the sun shines is when we do our best.

Ship Island trips are especially popular on summer weekends, so you'll want to arrive early or choose to go out on a weekday.

Tickets are $18 for adults, and they are sold on a first-come, first-served basis.
