Bluff being strengthened at park by Mississippi River

VICKSBURG, Miss. (AP) - Workers are strengthening a bluff at a park next to the Mississippi River.

The Vicksburg Post reports that a section of the bluff at Riverside Park began slowly sliding off the bank in April 2015. That took part of the park's fence and walking trail, and threatened one area that has playground equipment.

The mayor and aldermen in November awarded a $324,348 contract to Central Asphalt of Vicksburg to repair the damage and resurface the play areas.

In early December, Vicksburg officials closed the park for three months.

The city and Warren County are splitting costs for the project, which was delayed while the Mississippi River level fell so the repairs could be made. Work has begun in the past several days.
