Coroner: Mississippi man apparently died of hypothermia

NATCHEZ, Miss. (AP) - A coroner says a Mississippi man found dead in his home apparently suffered hypothermia.

Adams County Coroner James Lee says 56-year-old James Ruffin was found Thursday night inside a home with little if any heating. Overnight temperatures had been in the low teens in the area.

Lee says the man didn't have any known medical problems, but his body showed signs of being frozen.

He tells The Natchez Democrat he listed the manner of death as respiratory arrest consistent with hypothermia, or a loss of body heat.

The coroner says a relative of the man told him the house was supposed to have heat, but Lee says he couldn't detect that any was on. He says he also couldn't identify a time of death.
