Gulfport Church Holds Ceremony Despite Flood

One Gulfport church isn't letting recent flooding put a stop to its normal plans.

Members of Forrest Heights Baptist Church on Ohio Avenue say they will still hold their pastor installation service on Sunday despite recent church flooding. Workers spent Saturday morning putting in new carpet for the celebration.

Earlier this week, members scrambled to clean up after severe weather caused at least 8 inches of flood water to get inside the building. Members say delaying the service never even crossed their minds.

"We've been without a pastor for a year, and so we want to get this all over with so we all have a new start and a new life," Church member Ike Lee Thomas said.

Forrest Heights Missionary Baptist Church will hold its pastor installation service Sunday at 2 p.m. The public is welcome to attend.
